Plastic

Plastic is the collective term for those materials which consist of materials which contain synthetically or semi-synthetically generated polymers with organic (carbon) groups. An outstanding attribute of plastics in general is that technical properties such as formability, hardness, elasticity, breaking strength, temperature resistance and chemical resistance, to name a few, can be easily diversified through the selection of the base material, the manufacturing process and the usage of additives.

It is impossible to imagine our daily life without plastics. They have changed our life like no other group of materials. Without plastics we wouldn't have cars, aircrafts, computers, tupperware, etc, etc. Many technical inventions and developments were only feasible once various plastics were invented; however it is important to recognise that the properties of plastic materials can be optimized by applying np-coatings.

We can achieve or optimize:

  • Acid and alkaline resistance
  • Protection against abrasion
  • Acid and alkaline resistance
  • Hydrophobicity
  • Oleophobicity
  • Antimicrobial protection
  • Easy-to-Clean

This represents only a few examples.

It is important to note that np-coatings can be adjusted to match the specific structure of the plastic.
